An Eleuthera cheerleading team comprising 8 primary school students competed on May 13 in a competition held at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium as part of precursor events leading into the 27th Milo Primary Schools Track and Field Championships which ran from Wednesday, May 14 to Friday May 16 at the Thomas A. Robinson (TAR) Track and Field Stadium.

The "Pineapples" - as they are called, were the only cheerleaders from the family islands in the competition featuring 10 other Nassau based teams. The 7 girls and 1 boy team performed a special routine called 'Jump it up', getting an opportunity to display the fruits of weeks of training and practice together.  For Tavy, Trishe, Johndeesha, Kadeisha, Anna, Kalen, Ashley and Kevia it was a tremendous feat  of cheering in pursuit of victory!.  In this their first time participating in the event, they managed to capture 5th place among the 11 teams.

Judges commented after the event, that the Eleutherans  would have done even better if they had not fallen short with certain criteria. For example, a complete team consists of a squad of 12 members - and there were just 8 Pineapples. Also, it should have been a ten-minute routine but  they performed for only eight-minutes.

So even though the judges were very impressed by the Eleuthera Pineapples, they could not award the team with full credit.

Despite the necessary deductions, for the young debutants,  this 5th place finish has bolstered the team with fresh confidence for next year, when they intend to return with their eyes on an even stronger finish.
