Miss Bahamas World 2008 - Tinnyse Johnson

(By Senior Entertainment Writer, The Eleutheran):  21-year-old Tinnyse Johnson, a stunningly beautiful Bahamian young lady, was crowned Miss Bahamas World 2008, at the elegant pageant held on Sunday, June 29, which was once again a resounding success.

She was one of fifteen Bahamian beauties who vied for the coveted title at the Rainforest Theatre of the Wyndham Nassau Resort and Crystal Palace Casino on Cable Beach.

Ms. Johnson of Grand Bahama replaces Anya Watkins, the 2007 Miss Bahamas World, who since winning has developed a flourishing career as a fashion model. “I’m Honoured to represent my country” and “I will pickup where Anya left off” said Tinnyse in a press conference following the crowning.

Tinnyse noted that she’s talented in sales and is currently a real-estate agent.

The top three winners were:

  • Ms. Tiara Cooper (right below)  1 st Princess: ‘Miss Tourism Queen International’
  • Ms. Chrystal Bethell (left below) 2nd Princess: ‘Miss Beauty of The World’

Pageant organizer Michelle Malcolm expressed satisfaction with all the contestants saying that she was “Extremely proud”.

“I think the judges did a great job” she continued, “Tinnyse is feisty… we’re going to take all of that feistiness and make it work for her”.

Eleuthera was well represented at the pageant by Ms. Paris Knowles of Harbour Island, who was fast tracked  into the top 10 with the tremendous support registered via text messaging. Indeed she was the winner of the “BTC People’s Choice Award”. On the night, Ms Knowles- sponsored by Mr. Guius Bethel, also took home the “Print Ad Award’.

Said Paris in a post event interview with The Eleutheran, “The pageant went very well. It was all I expected and more. On stage I was just myself. I had a lot of fun and I am not at all disappointed because I know I gave my best. It was my pleasure to represent Eleuthera. I go forward from here taking it all with me” !


She is studying “Secondary Education – History and Geography” at the College of the Bahamas and is looking forward to teaching - "preferably back in Eleuthera, anywhere on the island", says Paris.
