Local Election Day in the Family Islands

The Hon. Sidney Stanley Collie,  Minister with responsibility for Local Government, officially announced the conduct of the Local Government Elections 2008 in a release on Wednesday.

The elections will proceed on Thursday the 26th day of June 2008 between the hours of 8 am. – 6 pm. in the following Districts only:

The Local Government Act, 1996 (Amendment of First Schedule)
Order, 2005

Grand Cay
North Abaco
Central Abaco
South Abaco
Moore’s Island
North Andros
South Andros
Berry Islands
Cat Island
Black Point
Harbour Island
Spanish Wells
North Eleuthera
Central Eleuthera
South Eleuthera

East Grand Bahama
Inagua
Long Island
Rum Cay
San Salvador
Green Turtle Cay
The City of Freeport
Ragged Island

The Local Government Councils (Second Schedule District Councils)
Regulations, 2005

North Abaco
North Andros
South Andros
Central Abaco
South Abaco
Cat Island
South Eleuthera
Central Eleuthera

East Grand Bahama
Long Island

The Local Government Councils (Third Schedule Districts Councils)
Order, 2005

Black Point
Berry Islands

The Local Government (Town Area and Town Committee Members)

Due to a Supreme Court Order issued by The Hon. Justice Jon Isaacs, elections will not be held on Thursday 26th June, 2008 in the following districts.

Acklins
Mangrove Cay
Hope Town
Crooked Island & Rum Cay
Central Andros
Bimini
Exuma
Mayaguana
West Grand Bahama

The conduct of new elections in these districts will take place on a date to shortly be announced.
