Department of Immigration charges two Bahamian males for assisting illegal landing

NASSAU, Bahamas,  -- The Department of Immigration was successful today charging two Bahamian males before the courts for assisting in illegal landing, which is in contravention of Section 47 (1) of the Immigration Act. 

The two Bahamian captains, Anton Edgecombe and Nigel Sands were intercepted by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force along with Police Marine Officers off of Montagu Bay at approximately 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 and were found with six Chinese Nationals onboard, three males and three females.

    * Two Bahamian Captains (pleaded Not Guilty) - $50,000.00 bail with one (1) surety
    * Chinese Nationals (pleaded guilty) - $300.00 fine or 6 months imprisonment

The Department is committed to prosecuting, in a timely manner all persons that contravene the Immigration laws of The Bahamas.
