Hon. Perry Christie registers resounding victory in PLP leadership race .
Former Prime Minister and incumbent Pogressive Liberal Party (PLP) Leader, Hon. Perry Christie registered an overwhelming victory on the second day of the 51st National PLP Convention at the Wyndam Nassau Resort on Cable Beach. The charismatic leader, handsomely dispatched with his competitors, securing 84% of the delegates who voted - close to 1400 in all by some accounts.
Delegates also voted in Philip "Brave" Davis as Deputy Leader and Mr. Bradley Roberts as the National Chairman responsible for running the day to day affairs of the Party.
Mr. Roberts defeated incumbent M.P. Mrs. Glenys Hanna-Martin who also contested the seat. Mr. Davis filled the position relinquished by the much beloved Cynthia "Mother" Pratt.
The night's outcome left little doubt of the Party's support for Mr. Christie to lead them into the next general election.
Mr. Christie, who consistently expressed his confidence leading into the evening, said that with the hotly contested race and subsequent vote, the PLP demonstrated it is a democratic party and that they must now focus on becoming the next government.
