Cacique Awards To Be Biennial, Tourism Week 2010 Cancelled.

(Nassau, The Bahamas) The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation today released the following regarding "Tourism Week" and the Cacique Awards:

After careful consideration the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation has determined that the celebration of National Tourism Week which was next scheduled for January 2010 will be rescheduled to January 2011. The Ministry proposes to undertake a review of the week so as to determine its effectiveness and to implement any needed changes.

The Cacique Awards programme which is celebrated during National Tourism Week will now be held every two years, the next celebration being scheduled for 2011.  The intervals will allow possible Cacique nominees the opportunity to further hone their talents and skills as well as provide the general populace additional time to identify and gather information on individuals and organizations that ought to be nominated for this prestigious tourism award.

The new National Tourism Week is expected to bring even greater focus to discussions of national issues that are critical to The Bahamas’ tourism-based economy.  The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation remains committed to the advancement of tourism through meaningful input on tourism matters from all residents and looks forward to the return of National Tourism Week and the Cacique Awards in 2011.
