Bahamas advertising catches eyes on I-95
The Bahamas’ new outdoor advertising campaign has caught the eye of South Florida motorists and given them a greater appreciation for the Bahamas’ proximity to the state.
As motorists approach the Bahamas’ new advertising billboards on I-95, they notice that daring men have climbed the billboard. As they get closer to the billboards, they realize that the men are actually life-size sculptures made to look like real people.
The sculptures are designed to emphasize the Bahamas’ close proximity to South Florida, from where travelers can fly to the Bahamas in less than an hour. Atop one billboard, the sculpture has been placed in a giant slingshot, attempting to reach the Bahamas with the sling. The other features a catapult. Both billboards read: “It’s Better in The Bahamas. Just 50 miles away.”
According to the United States’ National Business Association, billboards continue to be an effective method of advertising. On its website, www.nationalbusiness.org, the association cites a famous research project conducted by Lee Cobb & Associates. The 1985 test demonstrated that the proper use of billboard advertising brought an eight-fold increase in the recognition of the subject – Miss America Sharlene Wells.
