TRIBUTE TO MILO B. BUTLER JR. BY RT. HON. HUBERT INGRAHAM PRIME MINISTER
(Nassau, Bahamas) - It is with deep regret that I have today learned of the passing of Milo B. Butler Jr. after a life of service to the Bahamian people.
Very early in his life Mr. Butler followed in the footsteps of the distinguished patriarch after whom he was named and went on to play a significant role in the political development of The Bahamas.
He served in many different capacities including Chairman of important public institutions like the Bahamas Electricity Corporation and the Gaming Board.
He also did a stint in the Consular Service as Bahamas Consul General in Miami.
The pinnacle of his political career was his service as Speaker of the House of Assembly, a position which he occupied with dignity and grace.
He maintained friendships with and earned the respect of persons across the political spectrum.
In the tradition of the Butler family, Milo Butler Jr. also played a significant role in the business life of our community.
He was a great Bahamian gentleman and a nation-builder.
My colleagues in the Government join Delores and me in extending heartfelt condolences to the Butler family. We know that the Bahamian people join us in mourning his loss. May he rest in peace.
