Update: June 03, 2009 - Miss IFE Bethel Sears the  first runner-up for the 2009 Miss Bahamas Universe Pageant, who was crowned Miss Earth Bahamas and is shown in the photographs, has relinquished her position in an apparent conflict with the requirements of the position and her ongoing tertiary education studies.

(May 25, 2009) - Beautiful, Ms Kiara Sherman was crowned Miss Bahamas Universe 2009 under the theme “A taste of the Bahamas through Elegance”, at the Nassau Wyndham Resorts, Rain Forest Theatre on Sunday May 25th, 2009.

The sold out gala event featured a plethora of young, talented ladies who were narrowed down stepwise to first 12, 8, then 5 and eventually the final three who were crowned, Miss International Bahamas, Miss Earth Bahamas and Miss Universe Bahamas in order of ascendancy.

As Miss Universe Bahamas 2009, Miss Sherman will play hostess to the 80 plus international beauties at the 58th Annual Miss Universe Pageant being held in the Bahamas August 23rd, 2009.

The evening concluded with a press conference where the three new queens were introduced to the media and had the opportunity express their goals in their new roles.

What a disappointment!
I'm sure Saul and Donald will be very disappointed that after investing so much money for the Miss Universe Pageant to be held in the Bahamas they will have to decline allowing the current Miss Bahamas to be in the semi-finalist due to the lack of beauty requirements.
There were only 2 contestants who fit the International Criteria and neither of them place.
Wake up my Bahama people and try to make something of yourselves in this World.

It just amazes me to see that in a beauty contest, an international beauty contest, The beauty never wins. I am so sorry for being shallow but it is what it is. A BEAUTY CONTEST. Congratulations to Ms. Sherman but she dosen't stand a chance against Miss Brazill or Miss Puerto Rico. I am PISSED. We will never place. For Christ sakes she's 5'6. Come on. Camille you were robbed. You are the Beauty and should be representing this country. Well thank God for the exposure because this country will need it. But we can kiss even placing goodbye!

Because yall acting like Bahamas is always place or is even make it to the damn top 20, in past Miss.Universe pagents. Don't mind them hosting the pagent here in the Bahamas and let that run yall on brake thinking we had a chance a placing! The gal then win, so now lets support her and give her love! Always gatta be your own to bring ya down dred! Yall gatta do better man! Congrats Ms. Kiara Sherman.

I like Kiara and I think she's pretty - will she place in Miss Universe?...I doubt it! However can someone please tell me how Ife made it in the top 2 over Sharie Delva and all the other beauties who were unfairly cut!!! I don't get it.

Well congrats to Kiara Sherman on what the judges thought was a job well down. However, I think Ms. Camille Kenny should of at least been in the top 3 if not the overall winner. Camille you are my Miss Bahamas Universe, you were the only one their that came close to Pagentry!!!

I can't believe it!! How dare you even compare Ms. Brazil and Ms. Puerto Rico to a Miss Bahamas. You people don't even know Kiara. She is a beautiful person...inside out!2009 and we still have a slave mentality? As long as you don't have light skin and curly hair you can't be beautiful. Kiara ia also talented and incidentally (whoever you are) there was a talent segment as well. Kiara doesn't even need the Bahamas to make it big. You should hear her sing. I pray that the rest of the world are not as narrow minded. You guys are always setting up our people for failure. If we can't praise our own...how in the hell are we supposed to be accepted as a decent nation by others. Grow up people and get over it!! Like it or not.....Kiara Sherman is our queen!!! This is why I left The Bahamas...Ignorance. Great job judges and great job to all of our beauties. ZNS, you have come a long way. I watched the whole story unfold via the internet. Wake up you dumb "black" haters.Kiara represents the essence of a beautiful "Black" woman. Now show our queen the respect she deserves!!

I was very disappointed in what happened last night. Don't get me wrong, I think Kiara is a beautiful girl but she is not what it takes for the Bahamas to compete at an International level. She lost her composure several times, she did not have the level of poise that Camille or Amanda or Ife had. The Bahamas never does well and I think we had a chance with Camille because of the exposure she had. These girls that compete in Miss Universe have been in pageants for years and someone who is new to this will never compare. Most of these girls already have their Bachelors degree or their own business, compare that to some high school girl that we send to compete at an International level. I am sorry to say the judges got it wrong.

Ok, lets talk woman to women! I still don't understand the importance of these dog-gone pagents anyway but for the interest of the topic I think it's all a grand picture of who has true control in this country - "it's not what you know its who you know!" As a strong, talented, beautiful and professional Bahamian women myself, I will not deny that Ms. Kiara is a Bahamian Beauty however when we analyze the definition of a "bahamian ambassador" for our women, she is not adequate. Did you not hear Camille's answer! and for the person who says we discriminate against "black sistas", can't you see we all wanted Camille a fellow "black sista" to win? Moreover, no body mentioned black or white. Frankly I'm "mango" skinned and Eleuthera raised and I consider myself just another shade of black more prone for skin cancer! Place facts where they should be the judges got it wrong, were probably paid off to make that selection and so be it. We shall see how Ms. Sherman really holds up to the other beauties of the world and with Gods mercy she may at least make it to the top ten just to be nice as the we are hosting!
