LOW PRESSURE/NO WATER COMPLAINTS FROM SUBDIVISIONS IN EASTERN AND SOUTHERN NEW PROVIDENCE

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

(BIS Release) The Corporation’s New Providence water supply is presently being severely negatively impacted by strong sea swells that are preventing the movement of the MT Titas that provides approximately 30% of the water supply for New Providence. Since Thursday Mar-19-2009, the Titas that usually makes one trip per day bringing approximately 3.0 million gallons has only been able to make two (2) trips with the last trip being on Saturday Mar-21-2009.

Presently our system demand is approximately 10.5 million imperial gallons per day and our New Providence supply sources (desalination plants and wellfields) total approximately 9.0 million imperial gallons per day; therefore without the daily Titas delivery, there is a supply deficit of approximately 1.5 million imperial gallons per day that has to be made up via conservation measures as our strategic storage levels (which are used to make up any short-term supply shortfalls) are low due to recent supply challenges.

These conservation measures are being implemented in the form of reduction in pressure during the overnight hours and during the daytime off peak hours in some areas. The Corporation will do all within its power to limit these conservation measures however the severity and length of time that these measures will remain in place is subject to the early restoration of the daily shipping operation. Present weather reports indicate that the swells should begin to subside by tomorrow (Tuesday) evening or Wednesday.

Residents in southern New Providence (including but not limited to Golden Gates, South Beach, Pinewood Gardens and surrounding areas) experienced specific challenges this morning that resulted in reports of no water. Corporation personnel have restored supplies to those affected areas and will work to avoid a reoccurrence tomorrow (Tuesday).

WSC has been running announcements on the public/private radio stations on New Providence to update our loyal customers and the general public of our present water supply challenges and we will continue to do so.

The Corporation sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this is causing our customers and we are working to restore our supply to normal operating levels at the earliest opportunity.

Customers who experience extended periods of low pressure or no water are encouraged to contact our Customer Call Center (302-5599 or 325-0505) so that their specific complaints can be investigated.
