RBPF Release - Chrislyn Skippings PLO, RBPF 21/04

Police at Bimini along with residents teamed up and prevented a house fire from spreading to nearby homes. Police at Bimini say that shortly before 4:00 pm on Wednesday 20th April, 2011 they were alerted to a house fire at Porgy Bay Bimini. Fire Services responded and on arrival met a five (5) bedroom wooden structure that was occupied by five (5) separate families, engulfed in flames. Officers also observed nearby homes on fire.

Fire officials along with the residents and members from BEC teamed up and were able to save the nearby homes from being destroyed. The five (5) bedroom wooden structure was not as fortunate and was totally destroyed by the fire. Fortunately, no lives were lost; however, persons were treated by the local doctor for smoke inhalation.

Police are still investigating and have not yet determined a cause for the blaze.

The Commissioner of Police wishes to thank the officers of Bimini, the off duty officers who were visiting the island and the residents of Bimini for working together in combating the blaze. This type of partnership truly shows that much can be accomplished when we, the Police and the Community, work together.
