Bahamas leads Spirit's launch into onboard Advertising
Tweet
"The beauty of The Bahamas and an exciting incentive offer has been rolled into one for Spirit Airline's guests. We've captured The Bahamas' turquoise waters, sandy beaches and colorful architecture and are inviting travelers to daydream while in-flight and save hundreds of dollars on a vacation to our tropical islands," commented David Johnson, Deputy-Director General, The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism.
Low fare American Carrier, Spirit Airlines, has announced that it will begin selling space to advertisers on everything from boarding passes to tray tables on its airplanes.
In a Press Release on Wednesday, Spirit said that its new Mile High Media, will offer advertisers “the ability to reach millions of captive consumers” - i.e passengers.
Surfaces to be plastered with advertising include overhead bins, tray tables, bulkheads, napkins, cups, menus, boarding passes, trash bags and soap dispensers.
In a press release to advertisers Spirit asks “Where else can you find 100 percent saturation with a targeted captive audience that will be actively engaged by your ad for an average of three hours?”
Who is the first to take advantage of this offer? Well with Vincent Vanderpool Wallace as Minister of Tourism it turns out that the airline’s first onboard-advertising partner is the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, whose ads are being placed on planes this week.

As part of the campaign, The Bahamas and Spirit Vacations are offering a limited time special offer. Travelers who book a three-night Spirit Vacations getaway to The Bahamas will receive a $200 instant rebate, as well as a savings of up to 50 percent on hotel accommodations, kids stay free offers and other value-added offerings. Visit www.SpiritVacations.com/Bahamas for complete details.
The Airline touts the move as not only value for advertisers but also a way to offset high fuel costs so that it can preserve competitive fares for its customers.
