A yacht anchoring off Spanish Wells on Sunday March 20th, like hundreds do this time of the year around Eleuthera, had the unfortunate circumstance of causing the disruption of telephone and internet service on the island for a litte over 24h.  According to Mr. Alvy Penn, Senior Manager, BTC Eleuthera Region, the anchor severed the fibre optic cable connecting Spanish Wells and Mainland Eleuthera.  Divers were hired to find and retrieve the broken cable and then a BTC team worked continuously up until 2:30am on Tuesday morning repairing the cable, revealed Penn. Using parts sent in from Nassau, technicians, managed to splice severed lines and restore service fully to Spanish Wells, early on Tuesday.
