(Eleuthera, Bahamas) - Colton A. Harris-Moore aka the Barefoot Bandit, was captured by Bahamas police off Harbour Island, North Eleuthera, early Sunday morning, July 11, officials have said, in a high speed chase on the sea ending up on Whale Cay.  The lanky 6'5" youth was seen in Harbour Island around midnight last night and the subsequent pursuit and capture took place around 2:00am.

Photo provided by Craig Eldon of DPA-media shows the tall barefooted American 19-year-old Colton A. Harris-Moore being escorted into the Harbour Island police station in the wee hours of Sunday July 11, 2010 after being captured in a small go-fast vessel.

He was taken by heavy guard to the Nassau Lynden Pindling International Airport shortly before 11:00am, handcuffed and shackled but as would be expected, shoeless.

Harris-Moore is to be charged in Bahamian courts in connection with alleged crimes committed in Abaco and Eleuthera over the past week prior to being extradited back to the US where he is wanted on a long list of charges.

The 19-year-old has garnered quite a reputation over the years that had landed him on the FBI's wanted list. As recently as last Sunday, the "Barefoot Bandit", it is alleged, stole a Cessna 400 Corvalis from Bloomington, Indiana, that crash landed in Abaco exactly one week ago, with further reports of a number of crimes in Abaco and then North Eleuthera, further south in the Bahamian chain of islands.

Spanish Wells' fishermen off North Eleuthera first reported sighting of a boat believed to be stolen by Harris-Moore from Abaco which led to local police being placed on Alert.

The FBI says on its website that since his escape from a Renton, Washington, group home in April of 2008, "over seventy investigations have been initiated for which he is alleged to be the prime suspect. These crimes include residential and commercial burglaries, vehicle thefts, assaults on law enforcement officers, bank burglaries, boat thefts, and aircraft thefts. These crimes have been committed throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Washington State, Idaho, Oregon, and several locations in Canada."
