GHSC and Briland Sailing Club Compete in Governor's Harbour
On Saturday February 20th, the Governor's Harbour Sailing Club accepted the challenge from the Harbour Island (Briland) Sailing Club to race in Governor's Harbour. The winds were minimal, and the harbour as calm as a pond. Six Briland Opti's and six GHSC Opti's took to the water after the Skipper's meeting. The racing was a lesson in how to move your boat in calm seas.
The morning saw two races, with GHSC Kenneth Davis taking first place in both. There was a break for lunch on the beach, then out to the committee boat and start bouy for the two afternoon races. By this time the winds picked up and the spectators on the beach were cheering on the home team.
Three sunfish raced as well for the 2nd annual St. Valentine's Day regatta.
At the end of the day, in the optimist class, Kenneth Davis held first place, Briland's Laquille second and Azlan third. The Sunfish, with only GHSC sailors, had Justin Pinder in first, Patrick Simillian in second and Steven Simillian taking third.
Many thanks to the Briland Sailing Club for travelling down to Governor's Harbour, and the GHSC plans to travel up to Briland for the re-match in early April.
