Spanish Wells wins High School Division and Tarpum Bay the Primary School Division.

(Tarpum Bay, Eleuthera) - Several hundred turned out in the heart of Tarpum Bay, on Saturday January 30th for the Eleuthera Junior Junkanoo Rush Out.  The event was scheduled to start at about 3pm but it wasn't until about 6:00pm that the large crowds had assembled.

Officials on hand included, Acting Director, Department of Culture, Eddison Dames; Leader of the Saxons Junkanoo Group, Percival 'Vola' Francis and Permanent Secretary Archie Nairn in the Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture.

The energised groups of youngsters from across the breadth of the island performed with splendid color and vigour for the four separate Divisions. (see Extensive Photo Gallery at the end of the article)

Groups were judged by members of the National Junkanoo Committee.

The Judges were all smiles

Spanish Wells All Age School swam away with the High School Division putting on an absolutely spectacular display blending good music, dancing, and unique sea-life themed costumes. Their large contingent of supporters were glowing with pride all along the route.

Good performances were also presented by a vibrant Central Eleuthera High School group who finished second and the third place Preston Albury High School in Rock Sound. Early in the week we had seen students of North Eleuthera who were out as a result of the protest actions at that school, still tending to their costumes but on the afternoon in Tarpum Bay we didn't see them participate. Also missing were the students of the Harbour Island All Age School.

The results by Division are:

Senior High Schools

 1) Spanish Wells All Age School
 2) Central Eleuthera High School
 3) Preston Albury High School
