Plans for the development of Rock Sound's Ocean Hole are finally being put into action, with the hope of making an exciting dream that has been in the air from the 1970's, materialize. More recently, about 9 years ago, local government discussed the revitalization of the site and now in 2008, it has begun.

Mr. Ronald Horton along with other eager associates are the ones who got the ball rolling, and have even been shown interest by the Ministry of Tourism and the Minister of Lands & Local Government, the Hon. Sydney Collie (The former donating $6,000 and the latter $30,000).  The project has three phases, and phase one is expected to be completed within three years stated Mr. Horton.  Initially, plans were drawn by an Antiquities and Monument Museum group from the United States, and now the Bahamian committee has worked on and enhanced the drawing.

On May 31st, 2008, the committee behind the project held an informational session at the site to inform the community of their upcoming plans.  When asked if the community has embraced the plans for the ocean hole, Mr. Horton responded, "The community has embraced our plans very well, as I have heard very little negative things about the project."  "We plan on beautifying the site to enhance its natural beauty, and it will also be a way for local persons to benefit financially," he added.  He went into detail saying that stalls would be constructed for the vendors, who would be serving Bahamian food and showcasing and selling Bahamian arts and craft amongst other things.

An Observatory Tower is also on the minds of the committee, and a fixture such as that would definitely attract more tourists.  On occasion, the site attracts up to forty tourists within a few hours time.  "The development of this site will bring many more tourists from around the world; just the other day I met a couple from Colorado," said Mr. Horton.  With excitement exuding from his eyes, he expressed how the site will be used for many different activities; ranging from cultural events to water sports (such as kayaking).  Camp coordinators are already lining up trying to book appointments at the ocean hole.
