Ride For Hope Announces Move To Governor’s Harbour
Tweet
For its 5th Anniversary the Organization looks toward expansion, the inclusion of more communities and partnership with Tourism.
(Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera) - The Ride For Hope (RFH) organization has announced a major change for its Annual event, scheduled for March 20, 2010.
For the past 4 years, the fundraising event has been staged (Start and Finish) at the North Eleuthera Airport, but organizers explain that they have simply outgrown that location.
“After much deliberation and careful thought we are relocating the RFH staging area to Governor’s Harbour,” announced the group today December 4th.
Stephen Holowesko co-founder with Susan Larson, explained that the move will broaden the footprint of Ride For Hope across the island and allow the group to showcase and involve more communities.
Additionally the organization is hoping to further develop the event to include a festival with Eleutheran Vendors in conjunction with the Ministry of Tourism and sees the Bayfront area in the heart of Governor’s Harbour as a choice location.
For riders the location change will mean; 100 milers will go north to Glass Window, return to Governor’s Harbour, up over the hill along Banks road, coast past Tippy’s, back down to Queens Highway south to Tarpum Bay before returning to Governor’s Harbour along Queen’s Highway; 10 milers will loop along Banks road down to the Highway and back; kids will do a 2 mile loop on Queen’s Highway to the Bayfront and around Cupids Cay and; other intermediate distances will do a variation of the 100-mile route.
In moving, Ride for Hope acknowledged the, “extraordinary hospitality of the people of North Eleuthera – especially Mitchell Underwood and the wonderful crew of White Crown Aviation – over the last four years.”
“It may be difficult for you to imagine and appreciate how much the RFH has benefitted from the unselfishness and generosity of Mitchell and his crew, but those of us intricately involved in the planning of the RFH know – and we will be indebted always,” said the organization.
Ride for Hope has continued to put the proceeds of its annual fund raising efforts to tremendous work here in Eleuthera. Since May 16, 2009 the organization has sponsored several groups of women from Eleuthera to Nassau as part of its Family Island Mammogram Screening (FIMS) initiative. The efforts in Eleuthera are done through the local branch of The Cancer Society who has worked diligently in recent months to make the women of Eleuthera aware of issues surrounding Breast Cancer.
