(North Eleuthera, The Bahamas) - American Airlines made it's inaugural flight into Eleuthera on Thursday November 20th from their Miami hub, touching down shortly after 1pm to a hearty welcome by new local employees and airport officials.  North Eleuthera was one of five new destinations launched Thursday from Miami including, Treasure Cay, Abaco; Charleston, S.C.; Knoxville, Tenn; and Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera (with it's first flight into Governor's Harbour arriving Friday, November 21st).

Additionally the airline added a second flight to Marsh Harbour in Abaco and resumed its seasonal flights to Exuma which were stopped when Four Seasons closed its doors.

American had ceased operations to Eleuthera a decade ago, when hurricane damages and economic forces precipitated the closure of several resorts on the island.

Three days per week, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, the North Eleuthera Airport will now welcome American's 64 seater Super ATR, while the Governor's Harbour Airport will receive flights on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, according to Regional Sales Manager (Florida & Bahamas), Tracie Hoo-Glinton, who also said, "We're excited, and we're glad to be back!"  She shared that American has seen strong demand in their current Bahamas destination markets - this, coupled with the archipelago's proximity to the US and the apparent willingness of visitors to still travel close to home even in tough financial times were deciders in their return. They are hoping these new routes will do just as well as their current established Bahamas markets.

Hoo-Glinton highlighted their special introductory fare into Miami described as being, "as low as $99 roundtrip - not including taxes, for travel through March 10th 2010."  However, tickets must be purchased by December 31st.
