A Testament To Eleuthera’s Beauty - Cape Eleuthera Resort & Yacht Club
Tweet
"Two women tourists with flat tire surrounded by wild dogs/stormy weather rescued by two local youth."
In an effort to promote team spirit and bridge a relationship with the local community, Cape Eleuthera Resort & Yacht Club organized a Beach Volleyball Party Sunday Sept 6th at Barracuda's -- with an after party at the Bahama Coffee Company.
About 30 people turned out for the event which was much appreciated considering the inclement weather conditions and according to organizers, “Everyone really had a great time!”
This all came as the backdrop to a story that once again highlights the true beauty of Eleuthera – its people.
“After spending a lovely day with friends in Gregory Town, we wondered whether we should spend the night or hit the road and make the two hour trek back down to the Cape. Before the possibility of a debate, my mother decided she was full of energy from our after-dinner double espresso and that we should make moves.
So off we went! It was smooth sailing until around 1am when we pulled up to the t-junction at Waterford and Deep Creek -- flat tire! I was sleeping when my mother and close family friend Vivian pulled over to check things out, but I do vaguely remember the evening's festivities and if I could sum it up with one exaggerated newspaper headline, it would go a little something like this -- "Two women tourists with flat tire surrounded by wild dogs/stormy weather rescued by two local youth." The entire evening was an ironic testament of how beautiful the Island of Eleuthera is -- from Gregory Town down to the Cape -- and how kind and openhanded its inhabitants are.
The next day we met our local heroes, Elton and Trevares, at the Cape for a friendly game of beach volleyball. Within 24 hours, our island experience went from being extremely pleasant, but somewhat typical and touristic to colorful and full of conversation and culture. We had made new friends.”
In an effort to bridge a relationship between the Cape and its nearby neighbor, Deep Creek, the resort will be opening its doors every Sunday at 3pm to the local community for an afternoon filled with fun, sun, music and of course – beach volleyball. The event is a "bring your own beer" affair, but if it grows in size, the Cape would like to reopen Barracuda's, its beautiful beach bar and grille.
For now, the after party will be held at the Bahama Coffee Company where complimentary conch fritters and one dollar pizza slices will be served.
Prizes will also be awarded to the "Most Spirited," "Best Outfit," "Best Serve," and "Best Physique" participants.
The Cape expresses a big thank you to everyone who came out saying, “we look forward to hosting you and your friends again”.
