Despite an afternoon of wet weather, the newly opened Bistro restaurant at Sky Beach Club, just outside of Governor’s Harbour, saw close to one hundred winter residents and second homeowners descend on them for lunch in a rousing display of support for the central Eleuthera ambulance fund on Sunday, June 28th.

More than six thousand dollars were raised to support HACE (Health Association of Central Eleuthera) in its’ efforts to provide emergency and ambulance services to the central Eleuthera community.

HACE is looking to secure a new ambulance to replace the current vehicle which is said to be well past its tenth year.

With the main February Food Fair fundraiser not happening earlier in the year, this new event was vital to raising the necessary funds toward this goal.
Adults contributed $50 and children $20 for an especially delicious lunch, prepared by and enjoyed at the Bistro’s one-of-a-kind poolside, waterfront setting.

While supporters enjoyed all they could eat, Dr. Seabreeze entertained on the guitar, and guests had the opportunity to bid on exciting donated prizes in a silent auction.

According to Mrs. Carletta Turnquest, Secretary with HACE, the afternoon was a resounding success, in funds raised, with the terrific atmosphere, and the Bistro hosts’ delectable spread and graciousness.

Second home owner, Ann Lenane, a neighbour of Sky Beach, and a key organizer of the afternoon’s event commented, “It was kind of crazy to try and do this in a week, but we pulled it off.  It went extremely well - everyone was very generous, and with the pouring rain, people showed up and it was awesome!”

Some of the mouth-watering dishes laid out for the afternoon crowd were: Shrimp spring rolls with a peanut sauce, Pita chips with hummus, New Zealand lamb chops with teriyaki dipping sauce, Chipotle chicken skewers and for dessert, Key lime pie.

Perry Parrigin, Director of Food & Beverage with the Bistro expressed his delight in being able to participate in such a worthy cause for the community and pledged to provide the venue on an annual basis for the HACE fundraising event, saying, “It’s our intention to make this an annual event to support this cause… and maybe one other during the winter.”

When asked what made the Bistro stand out from other restaurants on Eleuthera, Perry answered confidently, “We have a very eclectic and varied menu; our Chef Curtis Thurston has worked all over the world, in the Maldives, in Africa and Napa – so he’s just amazing.  My service team is friendly, and we bring a professional level of service.  We also encourage our guests to come in and have lunch and then enjoy our Infinity-edge beachfront pool with swim-up cocktail bar facilities, and breathtaking views.”

Parrigin continued in praise of his team at the Bistro, “So many people came up to me and said that the staff was incredible… they are my rock stars, they’re awesome.”
