(Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera) - The Eleutheran has learnt of the sad passing of Mr. Gaius Cornelius Bethel (45; name spelling corrected from Guius) of Palmetto Point/Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera on Monday, June 22.

Guius, well known on the island for his passion in fashion design,  brought world class quality fashion design shows and beauty/talent contests to Eleuthera some years ago, drawing crowds of several hundred attendees on many  occasions.  Persons from all over the island of Eleuthera  including Spanish Wells and Harbour Island attended these well presented shows.

He was the son of Reverend and Mrs. Philip Bethel. Rev. Bethel who is the Senior pastor of People's Restoration Baptist Church of Palmetto Point was the long serving member of parliament for Central Eleuthera.

Gaius was the organiser behind the previous Miss Eleuthera Teen competitions last held in 2006, and also took teams to other islands in the Bahamas displaying many of his creations. In 2008, Gaius co-sponsored Ms. Paris Knowles of Harbour Island in the Ms. Bahamas World competition, at that time expressing delight in the opportunity to contribute, by assisting the young Eleutheran in her endeavours. In 2003, he managed Nadia V. Johnson to her successful acquistion of the Miss Bahamas Universe title.

In November of 2008, we encountered the enthusiastic Gaius as a key organiser behind the scenes of the wonderful Installation and Ordination Service for his father Reverend Philip Bethel,  Minister Charlotte Davis and  Reverend LeeCarl Sands.

He has also previously held the positions of Chief Councilor of the Central Eleuthera District Council and the Chairman of the Governor's Harbour Council.

Additionally, Guius operated an off-shoot service of the family business, Eleuthera Supply, delivering snacks and meats across Eleuthera.

You were one of Eleuthera's best men, you weren't perfect but whenever you had to give and do you did it at your best.I cannot yet come to grips with your death,I've not yet cried, hearing of your arrival I was ecstatic to know that you were back and had high hopes of seeing you again and just hearing ya voice.
Mr Bethel you are a fashion legend,no one could ever compare to your style,You taught me lots of things during the years of knowing each other,I always tagged along for fashion shows, pageants in Nassau or whenever called upon. I'm gonna miss you dearly but I know you're looking down on us who are in sorrow and pain over your death and I know that you would not want us to feel down and out because you are gone because now you are in a better place, where there's no suffering nor pains. I love you ssooo much, not because you are dead but because of the type relationship we had..memories will truly last forever!I will sure miss you Guius Bethel!!!

I Met Guius When I Was Seventeen Years Old At Nassau International Airport. From The Day I Met Him, He Has Always Been The Same Person. Very Nice And Kind. He Was Always Extremely Nice To Me. I Had The Privilege Of Meeting His Family. And They Were Very Nice As Well. I Would Like To Share These Words To Describe My Friend Guius: Guius It Takes More Than Words To Let You Know How Much It Meant To Me, As A Friend. I Always Could Depend On You When I Was Confused. I Could Depend On You When I Was Sad. I Could Depend On You For Anything You Were Always There. I Am So Thankful To Have Known You On This Life Journey. I Am So Thankful To Know That You Were My Friend. Now You Are A Friend To God And His Angels. May You Forever Rest In Peace. My Heartfelt Sympathy And Kindest Regards To The Honorable Phillip Bethel And Ms. Bethel And Family. With Love, I Will Always Cherish Guius Memories.

I was shocked when I heard the news today. Instantly, i had flashbacks of the wonderful times we shared together in Nassau, Bahamas. To The Bethel Family:Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort your family tomorrow. RIP Guius

Sympathy to The Bethel Family. May God Bless you In your time of Bereavement. We would like to share this poem with you.

All but Death, can be Adjusted
Dynasties repaired
Systems-settled in their sockets
Citadels-dissolved

Wastes of Lives-reason with Colors
By Succeeding Springs-
Death-unto itself-Exceptions-
is exempt from Change-

Poem By Emily Dickinson

Weeping may endure for an night but joy cometh in the early morning light. RIP Guius, We love you but Jesus loves you best.
