Cultural Treasure – Royal Bahamas Defence Force Band in Gregory Town (image gallery included)
(Eleuthera, Bahamas) - Be it in Concert as a Pop Band, or on the Street as a Marching Band the Royal Bahamas Defence Force Bands usually present stellar performances which thoroughly engage and energise their audiences. They did just that at the 22nd Annual Gregory Town Pineapple Festival in June, echoing Bahamian music in nicely choreographed moves and sometimes daring actions.
Absolutely enjoyable was their performance on the Saturday afternoon shortly before the sun went down when they marched to the homecoming site in grand style and then proceeded to blend orchestral style with down-home flavour.
The looks on the faces of the many visitors in the crowd were those of delight. For Bahamians the pride was palpable and for all it was pleasurable entertainment.
The pop band performed on both the Friday and Saturday evening late into the night of the June 6th weekend.
The beauty of photography is that it freezes a moment which then lends to a mind extrapolating it in all directions. The images below, courtesy of The Eleutheran team, capture some of the wonderful moments at the 2009 Gregory Town Festival.
