November 
Arts and Crafts Exhibition
This annual event is sponsored by the Haynes Library, Governor’s Harbour.  Artists on Eleuthera display and sell their art and craft.  Food and drinks are on sale also.  For information, contact 242-332-2877.  This event is held on the grounds of the Haynes Library. 

4th – 8th  
Governor’s Harbour Homecoming Festival
This festival attracts local people and visitors for a fun filled weekend.  Activities include Junkanoo, live band performances and games.  For information contact Mr. Arthur Turnquest at 242-332-2748.  Event held in Governor’s Harbour. 

27th – 29th  
Green Castle Homecoming
This event attracts family and friends for a weekend of celebrations in cultural activities, food, drinks, live band performances and games.  Contact Tony Butler at 334-4281 for more information. 

December 26th 
Junkanoo 
Junkanoo is the National Festival of the Bahamas.  It represents our roots and it is our heritage.  Junkanoo originated during the days of slavery the slaves were given time off to celebrate the holidays with African dance, music and costume.  The festival is named after ‘John Canoe’, an African tribal chief who demanded the right to celebrate with his people even after being brought to the West Indies in Slavery.  Junkanoo today is a traditional rally to cowbells, whistles and goat skin drums as costumed revelers dance away.  Contact the Eleuthera Tourist Office at 242-332-2142. Parades held in Tarpum Bay, Rock Sound and Harbour Island.

Ride For Hope - This national fund raising event, held in Eleuthera, provides much needed resources for fighting cancer throughout the country.

 

WEEKLY EVENTS

Fish Fry at Anchor Bay in Governor’s Harbour

Every Friday night the Governor’s Harbour Development Association have a Fish Fry at Anchor Bay in Governor’s Harbour.  This vent attracts dozens of tourists every week.  The tourists and locals look forward to this every Friday.  The proceeds from this event go towards the Annual Homecoming and various projects within the community.

Fish Fry at  James Cistern
The James Cistern Heritage Affair Committee would like to inform the Eleuthera public that there will be a Fish Fry every Saturday under the cork tree in James Cistern starting fiom 9a.m. Until.

This event is to help the Committee raise funds for the 15th annual Heritage Affair in April 2010. During this event Soft Drinks, Alcohol and food are sold, there are also games such as hoop La and punch board. The committee members are as follows: Angelo Bethel- CHAIRMAN; Anna Lewis- ASST. CHAIRMAN;  Sheena Thompson- TREASURER; Lucille Bethel- ASST. TREASURER;Bianca Rolle- SECRETARY; Andrea Bethel- ASST.
