About 200 persons Joined 'Island Journeys' at Beach Party, as the Protect Lighthouse Beach Campaign Kicked off
In a Celebration of Beauty, Serenity and Tranquility, Island Journeys on Saturday sponsored a beach party for locals and visitors alike at Lighthouse beach. What began as a trickle soon became a steady flow as almost two hundred return visitors and first timers, came to explore this most sacred place. They were welcomed by chattering birds, warm sun rays and a gentle breeze.
As the visitors snacked on hamburgers and hot dogs for lunch and wore their "Have you seen it? Lighthouse Beach" t-shirts and children splashed continuously into the turquoise waters there was a cloud of uncertainty that scenes like this might not be a reality for the general public if a move is not made to make this area Eleuthera's first on-land national protected area.
As sixteen year old Jaime Knowles of Tarpum Bay described it to her mother, "It is as if God lives there." Everyone was touched by its beauty as small children from Deep Creek, Governors Harbour and Weymss Bight, more than 55 college students from Clemson University and visitors from as far as Rainbow Bay explored both on the water and on land trying to soak it all in.
This event is the official commencement of the Protect Lighthouse Beach Campaign, being sponsored by Island Journeys. The campaign website is now up, and persons interested in finding out more information should visit www.protectlighthouse.org.
