Bahamas Ferries holds Launch Party for Bohengy II - A fabulous new vessel.
The New Bohengy II which arrived in the Bahamas in late October was christened in grand style on Thursday evening, November 13th 2008, when the Bahamas Ferries, as described by Mr. Khaalis Rolle, Chief Marketing Officer, “put together a reception to celebrate their partners, customers and special people that helped to make the business successful”. As guests arrived, the famous band, ‘The Brilanders’, provided down home musical entertainment.
The Hon. Tommy Turnquest and the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin were on hand to give congratulatory remarks. Amongst other compliments, Hanna-Martin lauded the operation for its assistance in the Sea Hauler incident. Most notably, Turnquest announced that, “the Government just this week, under the Prime Minister’s direction, has given instructions that we will make the Eleuthera terminals, both on the Mainland and at Harbour Island something worthy to match Bohengy II”. Other speakers included Chairman, Mr. Craig Symonette, Mr. Peter Vlasov, Shareholder and Board Director, and the Ship’s Designer.

The new Bohengy II, a medium speed passenger catamaran ferry is equipped with a Tourist class passenger saloon on the main deck (seating 314 passengers) and a Voyager class saloon on the upper deck (seating 80 passengers). Saloons are equipped with restrooms, kiosk and entertainment equipment. The aft main deck is arranged to carry 2 cars, which can board using a ramp system. There is also a cold cargo room, a dry cargo room and a passenger’s luggage room situated on the aft deck and fitted with weather proof doors.

The climax of the evening came just before guests were escorted aboard and given the grand tour by Captain Harvey Sweeting, COO, when Mrs. Butler, had the honor of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, and christening the new vessel by breaking the champagne bottle against the hull – both of which went splendidly.
