Cable Service Interrupted by Lightning Strike

The cable service outage which Eleutherans have experienced since the beginning of this week was confirmed by Cable Bahamas’, Director of Public Relations, Dr. Keith Wisdom, in conversation with The Eleutheran on Wednesday, Aug 27, as being caused by lightning, which struck a processing facility housed on Eleuthera this past Monday evening around 6pm.

Mr. Wisdom commented that, "we are Cable users ourselves”, expressing an understanding of the need to deal with such an event as quickly as possible to restore service, however, still explaining that the machinery had to be brought back up in a certain way to regain full pre-event functionality.  He said that Cable Bahamas has set protocols in place, which enabled them to begin working to repair the machinery within an hour of the lightning strike hitting the equipment.

By Tuesday, Aug 26, Cable television service was said to be back up and running in all affected islands, which included Abaco and Grand Bahama, with the internet service in Eleuthera still down.  Internet service on the island was back up on Tuesday evening.  However, according to Mr. Wisdom a further technical glitch on Tuesday night threw several channel services out once again, which Cable Bahamas is now working on to restore as soon as possible.
