Governor’s Harbour Primary School Grade Six's Trip Around the World
Tweet
(Governor's Harbour, Eleuthera) - Grade six at the Governor’s Harbour primary school (GHPS) under the tutelage of Mrs. McPhee Pinder through research and presentations took a trip around the world on Wednesday, November 24. The class of 17, in the nestled grounds of GHPS, split into four groups and travelled to South America, Europe, the Far East and Down Under.
The journey began with a trip to the “land of the rising sun”. Here, the group presenting Japan was fully garbed in Kimonos. They began by greeting each other in Japanese “Konnichi wa”. The group discussed the significance of the flag, national symbols and places of interest.

From Japan they traveled to Rio de Janeiro, the largest city of Brazil. Here the scent of coffee kept all alert to experience the excitement and colourful costumes of Carnival. With their apt depiction of the map of Brazil, group two was able to give a vivid country tour.

Then it was off to picturesque chalets, skiing in the Alps and touring the Watch factories of Rolex and Omega.
The highlight of the trip however, was the variety of chocolates sampled in Switzerland. This group was right on the dime when portraying the type of clothing worn in their country.

Michael Bethel, D'aundre Sands, Aranique Moss and Elrico Bethel took us on a trip through the Swiss Alps.
Finally the class made it to the 'Land Down Under', the smallest continent of all, Australia. "Our experience of the outback was enlightening. Australia’s varied and unique species of animals really captured our attention" said class teacher, Mrs. Pinder, adding "The groups did an excellent job in depicting their country."

A replica of something significant from each country was constructed and displayed.
The morning culminated with a food fair. Here the judges, parents and students sampled cuisine from the four countries presented.
Mrs. Pinder, said that she was especially proud of how well the students interacted in their groups. The genders were mixed, ability levels were mixed, readers with non readers and for the most part the group members complimented each other.
“The reason the latter is so important is because in the real world they must posses the ability to work well together” added, Pinder.
