Hatchet Bay's Oldest Resident Passes - Mrs. Clara Ellen Dames
Mrs Clara Ellen Dames, a widow and the oldest resident of Hatchet Bay, Eleuthera, quietly celebrated her 96th birthday on February 3rd, 2010 at home with her nieces and neighbors. After enjoying a generous slice of birthday cake with her favourite beverage, Fanta Orange Soda, Mrs. Dames expressed gratitude to God for the “best birthday” ever and a long life.
At The Eleutheran for each of the past two years, we proudly helped to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dames - one of the Nonagenarians on the island.
Mrs. Dames, was cited by Ambassador Clifford Scavella in a 2008 interview as one of the older persons in the community who helped him to read as a boy growing up in Hatchet Bay.
She passed last week and will be fondly remembered for her many contributions to the community over her full life.
