The article on styrofoam in the Bahamas is To-the-point. As a Professor of Environmental Chemistry, I know the longevity of this material and many reasons to not use it for Dispo-products. Try to get the starch based packing pellets instead of styrofoam. When my wife and I send a pallet over on G&G -we alwyas include paper plates--though not as Eco-friendly as reusable ware (but one must also conserve wtaer) at least paper is biodegradable or burnable. Ah you say--burning goes to carbon dioxide (CO2) but only a fewyeras ago (not millions like petroleum) did the trees in the tree farm (renewable resource) take that same CO2 out of the air.
Think--stores such as Eleu Supply, East & Final etc. should sell bodegradable disposable plates NOT styrofoam.
