Ms. Glenda Johnson is the holder of a Bachelors of Science Degree in Professional Management from Nova Southeastern University. She has assisted with organizing the Eleuthera Tourist office off shore promotions (Jensen Beach Heritage Festival and Sanford, Fla Pineapple Festival) in addition to many other daily responsibilities at the Tourist Office.

Challenge

During the month of November 2007, the Pineapple Festival Committee had the opportunity to reestablish the City Relationship with Jensen Beach Fla.  Ms. Johnson went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure that this promotion was successful.

There were persons in the contingent that were scheduled to travel at different times.  Fifteen (15) persons that were traveling with Ms. Johnson were scheduled to travel through Nassau via Bahamasair Tuesday October 30th.  As a result of the threat of Tropical Storm Noel, all flights on October 30th were canceled resulting in the group not being able to travel that day.  Tropical Storm Noel was a threat to the Bahamas until Thursday November 1st.

The three airports were temporarily closed, and flights were cancelled, however, Ms. Johnson continued to move back and forth from her home to the Airport (under poor weather conditions), hoping that the airport would become operational for the group to get into Nassau.  Finally, it was discovered that Pineapple Air had flown into Rock Sound to take some people and as a result of this Ms. Johnson telephoned the agent in Nassau to find out if they could get their pilot to divert the plane to Governor's Harbour Airport to pick the group up and take them into Nassau.  They agreed, and for this to happen cash up front was required.  The required cash was paid by Ms. Johnson which resulted in her having to use her per diem and personal funds.

It was Ms. Johnson's endurance and quick thinking that enabled this group to arrive in Jensen Beach to join the remaining contingent that was already there.    Had this group not gotten there, the Bahamian Marketplace would not have been operational at the Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival.

Commitment

Glenda continues to make a positive difference within the Eleuthera Tourist Office.  She can be called upon at anytime without hesitation to assist with any task given.  She has willingly worked many weekends without any compensation.  Ms. Johnson is a very graceful individual who is honest, well respected and trustworthy.  She is able to manage the Eleuthera Tourist Office well and has excellent planning and organizing skills.

Community

Glenda is a community minded individual.  She has been active within the community of James' Cistern for many years.  In the first ever Local Government Elections that took place in 1992, Glenda was elected as one of the officials with the majority of votes.  She served as a Local Government Practitioner for three consecutive terms.  Ms. Johnson is also active in her church, Global Outreach Ministries.
