Eleuthera, Bahamas - (pronounced ee-loo-thrah), is a beautiful elongated isle with gentle rolling hills and winding roads leading to quaint townships and fabulous beaches dotted all along its length.

As the birth place of the modern Bahamas, the island of "Eleuthera" was founded in the mid 17th Century by a group of Puritans who sailed south from Bermuda in search of Religious freedom. The name is derived from the Greek word "Eleuthero or Eleuther" meaning free or freedom.

Located just over 220 miles from the east coast of Florida with coordinates of   25oN,  76o W, Eleuthera has a generally mild climate  with an average temperature of 80oF all year round, regular trade winds and the occasional cold front in winter months that may drop the temperature into the 60's overnight.

The island runs approximately 110 miles from its Southern Townships to its Northern tips. Perhaps most intriguing about our gem, is that its width never exceeds approximately two miles and it narrows to about only 100ft at the world famous Glass Window bridge in the North. Tip: Briland photography offers a magnificent photograph of the water "raging" over the land at this bridge from the Atlantic Ocean.

The Island has approximately 10,000 - 12,000 on its three main islands of Harbour Island, Spanish Wells and Eleuthera (main land). Touted as one of the prettiest group of islands in the Bahamian archipelago, Eleuthera has a one-of-a-kind beauty and character, with natural treasures of people, sun, sand and sea.

The final regatta of the Bahamian sailing season, brings thousands of Bahamians and visitors to Harbour Island for a few days of a spectacular, North Eleuthera Regatta. Eleutherans, by nature are a strong and proud community of people. Each township is immensely proud of its' individuality, while recognizing the familiar values and traditions treasured by all with Eleutheran heritage. The island's hospitality is unrivaled.

As 'Eleuthera's Best Source of News & Information", The Eleutheran aims to continuously unite the vision of the diverse townships scattered along her 100+ miles.
